Research Area:
1) Phylogenetics of the eastern honey bee (Apis cerana) in China. Currently, much remains to be done on the classification of A. cerana. Classification of A. cerana from a genomic perspective will not only provide insight into its evolutionary history, but also of great importance in protecting the genetic resources of A. cerana.
2) Environmental factors influences the distribution of phenotypic and genetic variations across populations. Adaptation to local environmental factors is an important area in evolutionary genetics. One of my area of interests is to detect signature of natural selection on honey bees, which, in combination of phenotypic characteristics, can yield insight into the adaptation of the population to certain environmental factors.
3) Genetic mechanisms of important traits in honey bees. Information of the genetics of these traits not only can gain insight in the underlying mechanisms of the traits, but also provide candidate genes that can be used in molecular breeding of the traits.
