IARCAAS Researchers visit University of Zaragoza to Enhance Honeybee Genetic Resource Protection and Collaboration
Date:2024-07-12
Researchers from the Institute of Apicultural Research at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IARCAAS) recently visited professor Jesús Yánǐz Pérez de Albénǐzs’s lab at the Huesca Campusof the University of Zaragoza in Spain. The visit focused on academic exchanges concerning the protection and utilization of honeybee genetic resources.
During their stay, the IARCAAS researchers toured the apiaries of Apis mellifera iberiensisin Spain. Professor Yánǐz provided insights into the characteristics, management and genetic structureof A. m. iberiensis. Both parties engaged in discussions about the similarities and differences between native honeybees in Spainand China, as well as the protection and utilization of honeybees germplasm resources.
The discussions covered ongoing work and progress in identifying of honeybee resources and the related software. Professor Yánǐz also demonstrated the impact of various equipment and instruments on cryopreservation, addressing technical issues, equipment upgrades and software improvements. Additionally, they explored potential areas for future cooperation.
This visit enabled the CAAS researchers to investigate and exchangetechnologies related to the protection and identification of honeybees germplasm resources, track the latest technological advancements, and strengthened international collaborations, laying the groundwork for deeper exchanges and cooperation in the future.
