Dr. Paul H. Williams, Department of Life Sciences, English Natural History Museum, will be working as an adjunct professor in the department of Bee Resources and Genetic Breeding of the Institute of Apicultural Research of CAAS.

Dr. Williams is the Chair of the IUCN-Bumblebee Specialist Group and is the world&39;s most authoritative expert in bumblebee classification and protection. Dr. Williams obtained his PhD degree from Cambridge University in 1985, since then, he has been working in the Natural History Museum inEngland. During the past 20 years, Dr. Williams was focusing on the classification, biogeography and resource protection of the bumblebee and published over 150 scientific papers.

Since 2007 when the institute established the international cooperation with Dr. Williams on Bee germplasm resources and breeding, 10 scientific papers have published on the world top journals. In 2013 he was hired as an adjunct professor at the institute until 2018. In 2014 and 2015, he was selected twice as one of the five national high-end foreign experts projects in Chinese academy of Sciences, and received research funding from the State Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs.

Dr. Williams will be working with the Bee Resources and Genetic Breeding team for 3 months in 2015, focusing on: 1) Molecular identification and phylogenetic analysis of the rare species of Megabombus; 2) Bumblebee genetic resources investigation in Yunnan-guizhou plateau and the floristic characteristics analysis.
