2024 International Apicultural Asia Regional Symposium Held in Beijing

2024 International Apicultural Asia Regional Symposium took place on September 2-4, 2024,in Miyun, Beijing, China. The symposium is hosted by Institute of Apicultural Research, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IARCAAS), co-organized by Apicultural Science Association of China (ASAC) and Miyun District People's Government of Beijing Municipality, and supported by the Beijing Municipal Forestry and Parks Bureau. The symposium theme is "Honeybee, Sweetening Every Aspect of Life."
Dr. WU Kongming, Member of the Party Leadership Group of MARA and President of CAAS, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered opening remarks. Mr. MU Peng, Member of Party Leadership Group of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality and Vice Mayor, launched the symposium. Mr. YU Haibo — Deputy Secretary and Mayor of the Miyun District of Beijing Municipality, Dr. Jeffery Stuart Pettis—Apimondia President, Mr.XIN Guochang—Deputy Director of the Bureau of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs(MARA), also attended the symposium and delivered welcome remarks.
Wu Kongming pointed out that pollinator insects, such as honeybees, play a crucial role in ensuring the effective supply of agricultural products and protecting the ecological environment. and that there is significant potential for the development of apiculture industry. He emphasized the need to further strengthen joint research and integration of apicultural key technologies, seeking new breakthroughs in supporting the supply of high-quality bee products and enhancing crop yield and quality. The goal is to promote the harmonious development of humans and nature through technological innovation in apiculture.
During the opening ceremony, the Institute of Apicultural Research signed an agreement of joint building “State Key Laboratory of Resource Insects”with the Miyun District People's Government of Beijing Municipality, aiming to jointly create a global "Resource Insect Science Center" and "International Exchange Center" to promote innovation in apicultural research.
At the symposium, sub-forums on "Bee Breeding and Conservation," "Bee Ecology and Management," and "Bee Products and Rural Revitalization" were held. Domestic and international experts and scholars shared their experiences and discussed strategies on major forefront topics in global apicultural technology development. During the event, ApiExpo was also held, showcasing the latest advancements in apicultural technology and high-quality bee products from major beekeeping regions.
This Symposium was attended by domestic and international participants from over 150 apicultural research institutions, universities, industry organizations, embassies in China, enterprises, and relevant administrative departments, including representatives from China, the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Croatia, Slovenia,North Macedonia, Australia, South Korea, Thailand, Laos, the Philippines, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Ethiopia, Republic of Moldova, Maldives, Romania, United Arab Emirates, etc. Nearly 500 participants attended the symposium.
