Date:2024-05-24

Recently, the Institute of Apicultural Research (IAR) was invited by the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia to participate in a special event for World Bee Day, titled the "THE PLAN BEE".

At this event, an esteemed group of Ambassador and diplomats, Chinese public officials, experts and environmentalists gathered. The participants shared valuable insights into the development of the bee industry and engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals related to food security, climate action, and environmental sustainability.

Professor Hao Yue from IAR delivered a keynote report on "Efficient and Healthy Breeding of Apis cerana and the Promotion of Mature Honey Cultivation Techniques". Dr. Hao had in-depth dialogues with the Ambassador of Slovenia, Alenka Suhadolnik, Ambassador of New Zealand, Grahame Robert Morton, Ambassador of Mozambique, Maria Gustava, Ambassador of Malta, John Busuttil, Program officer at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in China, Dr Dong Le. They discussed how to ensure rights to healthy, clean, and sustainable development, and addressed urgent issues of climate change and biodiversity loss in major multilateral bodies.

In 2017, the United Nations Member States approved Slovenia's proposal to proclaim 20th of May as the World Bee Day. This resolution aims to promote sustainable agricultural development, enhance biodiversity, ensure food security, and actively address the challenges of climate change. In the long term, protecting bees can contribute to alleviating poverty and hunger, as well as maintaining a healthy, clean, and sustainable environment.
